Downtown Houston: Your New Walkable Neighborhood
There’s never been a better time to live in Downtown Houston! Since Houston is consistently on the list of rapidly growing cities in America, it’s no surprise that its downtown area is also rapidly growing. With new developments, restaurants, and tons of events and shows, the Marlowe is a great way to get to know Downtown Houston!
The Marlowe, located on Polk street, is just a few blocks from the Main Street Metro Rail. Oh, and it’s right across from one of the main music venues in town: House of Blues. In December alone, you can take in the sultry tones of Andra Day, the folk and bluegrass stylings of Robert Earl Keen, or the distinctly Texan alt rock of The Toadies!
Forgot to pick up the groceries? Phoenicia Market is just steps away along with the attached MKT Bar that features a host of local and craft brews on tap, trivia nights, and local DJs on a rotating schedule. Fat Tony has been known to DJ here, despite his globe trotting to spread the continuing tradition of Houston rap and hip-hop.
Discover Downtown Houston All Over Again
For other must-see downtown destinations and eats, hop on a BCycle! It’s a “next-gen bike sharing system” and it’s a great way to see downtown. You can visit Discovery Green near the George R. Brown Convention Center and take in a free movie or participate in a free CrossFit class on weekends. They even transform the lake into an ice rink for the holidays! On top of all that, you have Jones Hall, The Hobby Center, and the newly renovated Alley Theatre for all of your theatrical and symphonic needs.
Downtown Houston is perfect for date nights or lazy Sunday mornings, too. Partake in the amazing coffee and brunch options at Honeymoon. Enjoy live music at Sambuca on the weekend. Pop into The Pastry War for some of the most delicious late night tamales you’ll ever have. Pro-tip: the Mezcal margaritas are another cult favorite.
Are you convinced yet? If you need one more thing to make up your mind, the BBVA Compass Stadium, where the Houston Dynamo live, is not far along with 8th Wonder Brewing Company where you can try any 3 of their beers on tap and get a custom pint glass for just $15. As mentioned above, there’s never been a better time to live in Downtown Houston!
